more pictures

Susie went to LaBamba (local village) this morning with Joanna Thelander and her 2 little ones Sarah and Luke, to pick up some food. Fresh pineapple, limes, tomatoes from the open market. They have a small grocery store and a few other small stores to get supplies.

working on the quad-plex

The quad-plex is a steel building brought to Bongolo in containers from the USA. It is going to be used to house doctors and their families. The inside walls are constructed from concrete block. We are cutting out the window and door openings and installing door and window frames, all of which are made out of metal.

The high humidity and heat has been a challenge. We are drinking lots of water that we need to filter. We are using more than we can filter, so the missionaries are helping us out by giving us some of theirs. (Pictures) John Dyk, John Yoder, Gerald Hodson

hospital

Vicky spent the morning at the hospital. She followed around some nursing students while they took vital signs. She also, made rounds with Dr. Saskia DePoel, who is from the Netherlands. Vicky was amazed at how much they can accomplish with so little and it is very evident how much they care for the people.

That is what this place is all about! Letting God get His work done through the hands and feet of his people so that more people can know Jesus!

Last year 1200 Gabonise people recieved Christ through the hospital Ministry.

we survived the bongolo road, just barely!

We are here at Bongolo and are we glad you were praying!

The plane trip that we weren't too worried about was the first af a very long day!
We landed in Mouila, but not before our stomaches were turned upside down!

We loaded all the stuff in a van and a truck and started our way on the bongolo highway.
This too was an experience! Vicky and Carrie lost most of their breakfast several times! We went four-wheelin in Africa in a van!

David and Becky Thompson, greeted us and fed us a wonderful meal. Sleep and simply not moving is wonderful!

we made it to Libreville

Thank you for your prayers, they were answered!

We were delayed an hour in Seattle, and still made our connecting flight!
all our luggage made it and the kitchen sink!

We cleared customs with all the supplies, Praise the Lord!

Tomorrow morning we leave for Bongolo, an hour plane ride and 3-4 hour drive.

ready to go

In the morning Gerald Hodson, Susie and I are leaving the LC Valley and going to Ellensburg to meet with the rest of the team. We are bringing a lot of supplies and will divide them up among all of us.

As far as the work: the previous team has the building all sided and the roof on. We will be cutting the steel siding, for windows and doors.

Pray for safe travels as we head towards the Airport to leave Saturday.

Going to Africa

On Saturday the 26th of January 9 people will begin
a journey into the jungles of Gabon!

Our mission is to come along side the Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA) missionaries at the Bongolo Hospital in Gabon Africa. We will be working on the Quad-Plex (four apartment unit).

The time difference between the Pacific Time zone and Gabon is 9 hours ahead.

Prayer Requests
  1. That we would glorify Christ in everything that we do.
  2. Safe travel. To reach the jungle it will take 3 airplanes with 20 hours of air time and then a lovely ride through the jungle for a couple of hours! We should arrive at the hospital around dinner time on Monday, Bongolo time.
  3. That the time there would change us and renew in us the burden of reaching the unreached people groups for Jesus.

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:1-5

Our plan is to update this blog regularly, as we will have internet access available, if there isn't a huge storm that disrupts the lines! We will also post pictures.
